Appreciation of our Mother

Image
CAMILLE DAVID · SUNDAY, APRIL 22, 2018 *Picture of Portage Lake taken by Mindas Ar’ran yesterday during motorcycle ride* ----------- It was requested that I write something up for Just Jedi concerning Earth Day as a community wide effort in recognizing our planet earth. I'll be honest...I don't really celebrate it, or any of these side holidays on a calendar. Earth Day to me is kind of like how Christmas has become...a commercialized excuse to get people buying there spring products and pretend for one day that people actually care about the earth. The thing is. The planet earth should be taking center stage at every day of our lives...not just "Earth Day." And thus the question here today is, how? How do we - as Jedi - take action to supporting and helping the home that we have all been born and raised within? Here are some ideas that are quite commonly well known no matter what label you call yourself, yet just as important to practice. A

Jedi In Family

Image
The Keeper 2018 Jedi In Family A common misconception is that Jedi are not allowed to get married and have families. To give up all forms of attachments. This is thanks to the movies and a few games, books, comics…. What most don’t quite add up is that Star Wars is a very vast and wide ranged universe. There is much more to it than just the famous movies on theater screens - but years and years of development both in the efforts of numerous authors, and in the universe itself. The time of “No Attachments” and “No Families/Relationships” was just a minor era in a series of many generations.   There are many examples in fiction of Jedi with families. Even during The Old Republic such things were not impossible, just harder to get approved by the Jedi Council such was the case of Jedi Council Member Ki-Adi-Mundi. "Due to the low ratio of males to females, Mundi's duty to his species was taken into account and he was permitted to remain wedded to his wife and honor wive

Jedi In Religion

Image
The Keeper 2018 Jedi In Religion While Jediism & Jedi Realism is it’s own unique and diverse lifestyle. It is open to the many cultural differences of it’s members. Members from all walks of life participate in the community and many still hold true to the roots they came from. Some are christians, buddhists, pagans, taoists and so on. Some are from the military, some from family oriented homes and others from a rough background. No matter where it’s members come from - Jediism & Jedi Realism realizes the strength in our diversity and welcomes it into our discussions and lessons. We do not seek to change them, merely add to what they already have. To bolster and strengthen what they already know. And to open the doors to new ideas and possibilities. After all. The Jedi from the Star Wars fiction that inspired much of the Communities early begginings was drawn from the many resources and knowledge of real world religions and philosophies. George Lucas says this about T

Common Jedi Ranks

Image
The Keeper 2018 Common Jedi Rank's Jedi Ranks has been apart of Jediism/Jedi Realist history since it was suggested in role playing and fictional novels. These ideas of Ranks were then carried over into Forum structuring which was an integrated and necessary part of Forum use. In order to protect members from bots and trolls or to hide study material progression - ranks were used to access restricted areas based on one’s study, practice and participation within the group. ----------------- Example being : A New Member is expected to complete a brief survey and structured list of materials before they can view and access the “Initiates” forum categories. -------- This started a traditional trend that has held within the Jedi Community since. While many of the Jedi Groups, Churches, Temples and Chapters will have their own unique ranking structure and standards to gaining said ranks. A common ranking  trend is as follows. Initiate Initiate Level is commonly a begi

The Community

Image
The Keeper What Is ‘The Community?’ “The Community” is a shorthand phrase for the “Jedi Community” often spoken by Jediism/Realist  members who attend and participate in more than one Jediism/Realist groups. There are usually two types of practitioners. Those who remain loyal and dedicated to just one group, chapter, temple.  And those who participate in many of the main and/or uncommon groups. It is in the second trend of members who will commonly refer to ‘The Community’ in an effort to unify and represent the whole of the Jediism and Jedi Realist efforts rather than singling out just one as an all around representation of beliefs. Example: The Community History Vs Temple of the Jedi Order History TOTJO is a large group and has been around for a long time. It could in some ways be considered its own type of community. But is not what people are referring too when referencing “The Jedi community” or “The community” Here at Just Jedi we encourage our members to br

What Is The Difference To Cos-players?

Image
The Keeper 2018 What Is The Difference To Cos-players? We actually get this question a lot. From new members to the community as well as from interviewers of the media, news reporters, documentaries.... What is the difference? This question is often asked because (While not a requirement)  it is not unheard of for Jediists to wear Jedi robes, train with toy lightsabers, and adopt fictional references into their doctrines and beliefs. You will find these practices at Jedi Gatherings for Knighting Ceremonies or Weddings. Within certain offline Chapter Groups for group representation and or advertisement, or even the individual member who found deeper meanings to wearing the robe for practices like meditations and ceremonies or personal comfort. (after all, they really are quite comfortable to wear!) Due to the incoherent nature within the Jedi Community concerning the use of jedi attire. Outside viewers who are unaware of our practice question and wonder when they see pho

Jediism vs Realism

Image
The Keeper 2018 Jediism vs Realism Years back in the early year 2000. The Jedi community experienced a divide in beliefs and direction. The common practice being based around a lifestyle choice to better oneself and train hard in the things that supported our “Betterment” subjects such as the “Mind” “Body” & “Spirit” and developing practices that touched on these aspects of an individual’s everyday life. The mind so that a jedi could learn to communicate, think critically and mediate tough situations. The Body so that we could be healthy both in common health and in physical practices that got you up out of your chair and moving actively and of course, the Spirit. Learning meditation, the force, and understanding the self through the reading of philosophy. These members called themselves “Jedi Realists” because it was their goal to separate from the fictional ideas of the Star Wars Jedi, and do things for real. Other’s sought to add to the above ideas and practice by making

What Is Jedi?

Image
The Keeper 2018 What is Jedi? Today, there are many beliefs, philosophies and practices that defines "Jedi" a little differently from the other. “Jedi” itself is fractured and divided and even to this day splinter groups are still a common occurrence. One that is likely to never fade entirely.   No matter the differences. There are universally agreed upon standards that makes one a Jedi. A Jedi of today are not in any way associated with the Fiction of Star Wars A Jedi accepts the title as a natural part of who and what they are A Jedi upholds to a set of morally accepted codes (Key Stone’s - as defined by Just Jedi) A Jedi believes in The Force as a form of energy A Jedi trains in some fashion or another A Jedi agrees that all Jediist’s and/or Realist goes through some form of awakening/journey How these standards are applied is up to the group and/or individual that set’s forth to share what they practice. While the appearance, wording, layout and/or struct

Just Jedi's Third Key Stone: The Tree's Roots

Image
The Keeper 2018 Just Jedi's Third Key Stone: The Tree's Roots The roots are the very foundation that keeps both the trunk and branches standing high and tall. They spread out into the earth stabilizing life and drawing nutrients into the rest of the tree. Like the Keystones of a Jedi's Journey, a Jedi acts and behaves with three prominate shoots Service - “ A Jedi Knight is Self-less in the service of respectable endeavors. ” In today's world it can become real easy to be tricked and cheated by prying on your kindness and service. This does no one any good for you and your hard earned resources. And for those who are breaking the law or mistreating their position. So while it is important that Jedi provide Service, we feel it is of equal important to remember to do your research, be knowledgeable and work towards a respectable cause that will be of actual use. Just Jedi's Second Key Stone: The Tree's Branches

Image
Just Jedi 2018 Just Jedi's Second Key Stone: The Tree's Branches Next are the Branches, reaching high up to the sky and spreading outwards - stretching towards new sun rays. The J.J. Tree's Branches are the symbology of a Jedi's Journey. Inspired by Joseph Campbell's mono-myth we recognize that our greatest of Key Stone's is the ability to experience it in action. It is one thing to say a Jedi is honorable, but a other to experience honor and to express it to other's. That is where a Jedi truely understands what it means and where it holds purpose. As such our Branches has three supporting limbs and their off shoot's Inspiration Beginnings Desire Mentor Initiation Doubt Encounter Struggles Apprenticeship Trials Adaption Reward And finally, as a Jedi's Journey goes full circle. We return to the Trunk of the Tree as Knights Knighthood Reflection Duty Acceptance Journal Entry Take each Supporting limb and

Just Jedi's First Key Stone: The Tree's Trunk

Image
The Keeper 2018 Just Jedi's First Key Stone : The Tree's Trunk The Trunk of a tree is sturdy, strong, grounded.   It stands tall and wide to support the expanse of it's branches and the weight of it's roots. It is at the trunk that life circulates and death begins to decay. It is also what nourishes new life after death. It is also where our Key Stone's begin's and ends. " Jedi aspire towards Self Mastery so that we may flourish in life. The Force , so that our spirit is strong. The Keystone's  of your school, so that we may serve others with discipline and valor. " Self Mastery In life you will encounter a great many techniques, methods of training and way's of application. It is unrealistic to expect to learn them all much less Master them. Which is why Just Jedi feel's it is more important that a student focus's more on mastering their own self talent. What are you best at? Where do you excel? What make's

Just Jedi Keystones

Image
The Keeper 2018 Just Jedi Keystones We have spent time together discussing the various Key Stone's of the Jediism/Realism community. And we also discussed how these Key Stone's are applied in various works of extended documents both free as pdf's and those purchasable on Amazon. But let us look inwards at our own group, Just Jedi, and explore what Just Jedi believes. When I, The Keeper of Just Jedi - Developed the J.J. Belifes page, I honestly admit that I had no intentions of making Just Jedi it's very own individual practice. While i had played with ideas over the years, I found it was better to let the members maintain and develop their own beliefs without the group or order dictating it in any way. But as all things go around here....I doodled this one thing, that turned into another and then a little of this and a little of that turned into our own section of beliefs. So with that said. Just Jedi in no way expects, requires, or determines your abili

There is Always More!

Image
The Keeper 2018 There is Always More! The Jediism/Realism community is as large as it is in depth. Every community has it's own method of performance and not all of them are shared openly like the Great Jedi Holocron or the Jedi Compass . Some have developed their own extended documents based around their groups individual priorities. Temple of the Jedi Order : For example, developed in 2010 " The Way of Jediism " as well as the " Jedi Perspectives " the later being more inclusive towards community development than the first. (Note: the two files linked above are both free and stored in Just Jedi's google drive for open view) Jedi Living : Is another example of a corner group that developed their own works which were all published on Amazon for purchase. Books such as " The Jedi Circle: Jedi Philosophy for Everyday Life " - " Exploring the Jedi Lifestyle " - " The Jedi Foundation: Tier One Program " (Note: The link

The Jedi Compass

Image
The Keeper 2018 The Jedi Compass The Jedi Compass is a compilation of essays from various Jedi throughout the Jedi Community. Each touching up on a series of topic's to give the reader a broad and extended viewpoint of Jediism/Realism in general. The full text was put up on Amazon for a small fee, all of which is donated to a charitable cause. The basic break down of the text's however is public and view-able. It is commonly used among the newer Jedi Group's and has been translated into various languages for ease of membership studies. The Great Jedi Holocron

Image
The Keeper 2018 The Great Jedi Holocron The most popular and widely used extended document was The Great Jedi Holocron in 2006 by Adam Yaw with over 1,861 pages. To this day, those who put forth a self motivated progress are still known to find this great text hidden in group libraries and read through this large text. Much of it's inspiration was drawn from Jedi Groups such as Ashla Knights and Force Academy along with several members who wrote and submitted segments and lessons for display, making it perhaps one of - if not the - first largest compilation of the community as a whole. Journal Entry Glance through (or read) the Great Jedi Holocron and find a section you enjoyed most. Share it in your journal and write your thoughts on it.

The Jedi Way

Image
The Keeper 2018 The Jedi Way Another Extended Document was compiled by Brandel Valico who took the many star wars resources from novels, movies, games and RPG guidebooks as well as bits of wisdom throughout the Jedi Community and placed it all insie "The Jedi Way" a 77 page long document of Jedi Teachings and wisdom. While it is noted in the documents disclaimer that most if not all the content within are not written by the one who compiled this information, it is not listed which parts belong where as the sources are missing. I am able to spot some of the sources such as the“  Star Wars RPG Core Rule Book ” and “ Power of the Jedi Sourcebook ”  as well as the traditional " Calming Breath " presented by Kharis Nightflyer of the Jedi Praxeum on Yavin 4  however...some escape my memory ( I will list them as I find them. If you spot a section you recognize from somewhere else, please comment with name , page location & source link! ) While the book

The Jedi Jewel

Image
The Keeper 2018 The Jedi Jewel A diamond of the community back in the early founding years was once known as  "The Jedi Jewel" S.F. CALDWELL also known as Master Maji began researching into the inspirations that George Lucas used to create Star Wars and compiled both the research and personal cultural practices into a 348 page PDF with chapters such as the "Jedi Ninefold Path" - Other chapters included meditation, warnings on the darkside, and even things like the Telepathy and the Jedi Illuminata, which is described as the "creme de la creme of the Jedi!" as it Journal Entry Read and Study the Nine Fold Path below and write your thoughts in your Journal Bonus!
