Extended Documents

Image
The Keeper 2018 Extended Documents Personalized Key Stone’s that represent a singular group is a common and popular practice of jedi within the Jediism/Realism community. It allows them a sense of purpose and identity as well as gives their members a direction in their new lifestyle. But alongside these one to two page Key Stone’s - some members went the extra mile to create extended documents in the hopes to cover a broader aspect of the Jediism/Realism movement. Much like a religions Bible, Scriptures or Guidebook these members developed pdf’s that combined a wider scope of community beliefs and practices. The Jedi Circle

The Keeper 2018 The Jedi Circle Separated from the Jediism movement was another branch of Jedi practice’s that developed it’s own method of Key Stones. Instead of the common Doctrine & Maxim formatting, a group called Jedi Living (Previously known as Jedi Academy Online & Jedi Foundation) worked up their own version of a structured Jedi’s lifestyle called The Jedi Circle.  The goal of the Jedi Circle’s was to provide it’s members with a source of reflection concerning a Jedi’s way of living and their key foundations. The Doctrine of the Temple of the Jedi Order

Image
The Keeper 2018 The Doctrine of the Temple of the Jedi Order The 33 Jedi teachings created by the founders of Jedi Sanctuary touched not just the hearts of it’s members, but those seeking to achieve higher goals. Temple of the Jedi Order sought to create an order that allowed it’s membership to become ordained and perform legal marriages (Among other things) without the piggybacking of baseless organizations like the United Life Church (ULC) where all it took was a bit of money and Q&A. Instead Jedi would be put through a training system in order to achieve these goals. Reaching out to Jedi Sanctuary. Temple of the Jedi Order asked Jedi Sanctuary permission to use some of their Teachings in their own Doctrine. And after some refining, re-wording and restructuring they developed the temple’s 16 Teachings. Later, the Jediism.org 21 Maxims was added to the temple Doctrines along with other various additions to create the whole of what they uphold to today. Journal Entry ...

The 33 Jedi Teachings

Image
The Keeper 2018 33 Jedi Teachings A couple years after jediism.org. A new group branched out with there own perspective. Wanting to stick close to the teachings found in the Fictional Star Wars universe. The founders reviewed and studied the scripts, movies and books to carefully extract key lessons applicable to the real world while maintaining it's fictional foundation. These Teachings started out small, with only 16 teachings. Which then grew to 18 teachings and finally to 33 overall teaching points of Jedi. This group was known as Jedi Sanctuary in 2003 and in 2006 these teachings were published for public view and use. Even becoming published at the www.about.com informational website. The 21 Maxim’s

Image
The Keeper 2018 The 21 Maxim’s In the late 1990's and early year 2000 the Jedi Community had been experiencing a series of troubles: With the media who had taken a negative interest in the Communities formation and with each other as viewpoints and opinions clashed. What was a Jedi meant to be? How do we apply a fictional figurehead into a very real world circumstance? How do we avoid copy write and being sued for loving the lessons and philosophies of Star Wars? Are we more like warriors or Buddhist monks? Do we regulate strict standards or leave it open ended? So many questions and so very many answers that did not quite match up. It didn't help that the pressure building up from these troubles would cause group after group to rise....and fall. How many times would the Jedi be recreated and torn down before we were able to understand not only what Jedi were meant to be.....but what we, ourselves, were meant to be. Tired of all the politics and never ending drama - So...

Community Doctrine Beginnings

Image
The Keeper 2008 Community Doctrine Beginnings While much of the other sources used in the making of Star Wars are mentioned in passings and various interviews with George Lucas. They are not discussed with as much depth and merit as the aforementioned Hero's Journey . The Jediism/Realism community was left to put the pieces together on their own.  Taking the parts they aligned most with while leaving the rest to their respective practices. Some drew from other fictional sources. The Matrix for example provided many great conversations and discussions due to it's heavy influence on the questioning of the world's inner structures. Another great example would be King Arthur and his Knights of the round table. Which has inspired more than just Jedi with his vow of Valor, Integrity and perfect leadership.  Other members of the Community looked to real world source materials like the "Tao Te Ching" - "The Art of War" or the author "Alan Watt...

The Hero's Journey

Image
The Keeper 2008 The Hero's Journey While the fictional Star Wars universe had proven both facinating and inspiring. It was the mastermind's and influances that were used in the Star Wars creation that had ultimatly captured the Jediism/Realism Community most. Philosophiers, Religious practices, historic figures, people and beliefs of this earth all taken, reviewed and brought into a new reality that so many were able to relate to without the ties from which they came from. One such Mastermind that George Lucas drew from the most was a Philosopher named Joseph Campbell and his book "The Hero With a Thousand Faces" published in 1949 which look's into the archetypal hero and mythologies of our own world history. Joseph Campbell delved into a theory that the world myth's and stories of hero's all had a similar fundamental structure regardless of time and culture. He called this the Monomyth and it became an integral part of the creation of many novel...
